Original watercolor/ink painting is double-matted in gray over rich sienna brown, framed in rough brown barn-wood frame with gray outer edging. Three male long-tailed (formerly called oldsquaw) ducks with two females in winter plumage have emerged from a dive in the cold water of Lake Superior as a snow squall spends itself, with an iceberg in the foreground.

Born in 1960 in Indianapolis Tanya underwent a long, charmed childhood and youth, much of it spent roaming old fields and woods in Indiana as well as the Canadian north shore of Lake Superior. With a B.A. Honors degree in English from the University of Western Ontario, Tanya was trained as a writer by her father, Werner Beyer, a scholar in English and world literature who taught creative writing at Butler University in Indianapolis. Her formal training in art is from the Indianapolis Art League and the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. The remainder of her preparation as a watercolor artist has come of trial, error and reworking while painting out-of-doors in the Great Lakes region.
