Snake warning sign. Yellow sign posted ontop of an electrical fence warning of Brown Tree Snakes". The fence surrounds a research site on Guam Island in the Pacific, in which biologist Earl Campbell is conducting a snake study. The brown tree snake (Boiga irregularis) is an alien species on Guam, introduced half a century ago and since has become a pest. Research into its ecology and lifestyle may enable scientists to control the snake. It is thought the island hosts over a million such reptiles. This bird-eating, venomous snake is eradicating native bird species, and many children have been bitten. The alien snake also threatens to spread to neighbouring islands."
