This is one of my most popular award-winning photos so far, and I owe it all to my husband Michael Walsh for getting this photo! I had been going to the Venice Fishing Pier for months trying to capture the perfect sunset, the most amazing one ever. And because of him I finally got it!

The night I captured this image we were nearby at Caspersen Beach taking photos right before sunset. I was totally engrossed in trying to get a really good photo of the beach, and Mike noticed there was an opening in the sky right above the horizon. He knew once the sun came below the clouds, the sky could turn into bright colors. So he said, "The sky is going to be amazing. Let's go to the Venice Fishing Pier now!" So we rushed over, and I was able to get there just in time to capture a few photos of this amazing sky right before it disappeared.

I am so happy we rushed over, and am thrilled how this photo turned out. I love the composition how the pier frames the sun, the leading line, depth, and the mood. I would have never gotten this photo without my husband. This has become one of my most popular images of Venice, Florida.

The fishing pier in Venice, Florida is a great place to watch the sunset at the end of the day. The pier extends 700 feet out into the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and is very tall. It is located in Brohard Park at the southern end of the island of Venice. There is a restaurant called Sharky's on the end of the pier. Caspersen Beach is just down the road where fossilized sharks teeth can be found. This is one of the most popular landmarks in Venice. It's a wonderful place to put your feet in the sand, listen to the waves of the Gulf of Mexico gently coming into the shore, and live tropical music playing from the tiki hut of Sharky's.

This pier survived Hurricane Ian totally intact on 9-28-2022! Our town Venice, Florida was hit very hard with a Category 4 so having the pier survive has encouraged our town.
