Description
Valentines Day Now In-Memoriam; 2015, oil on canvas, 62.25 inches X 42.25 inches.
*Everyone who watches from the outside may recall their own experience with affection, once shared as lovers, embracing like the couple in Valentines Day Now In-Memoriam beneath the golden sun that was expected to forever nourish the best of intentions and hopes. But, alas, the years move on, eventually breaking that magic moment, winding down into chapters of shattered human relationships. Partners are left to reside in their own wake, a faint overlay of their past bond. A gray Valentines Day Now In-Memoriam is the symbolic replacement of that original luminous hope, a reminder, as it has been said, that things dont always work out as planned.
A real terror is found in our fear that we may be left alone one day, to have lived inconsequential, to die unknown with no trace. Who will care? We wonder. As we age, the importance of financial self-sufficiency, good health, and knowledge that our children have matured with prosperity comforts us, but is still just not enough to complete us as individuals. In our quest to climb above personal emptiness, we confront an endless battle against all odds to fill the hollow, and keep on trying, grasping for that intangible something that will secure an inner meaning. Through it all, a natural desire is non-negotiable, and we keep knocking on the door of hope until someone answers our call to belong, to be needed, to bond, and, perhaps above all, to love.
