This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
My love of sailing, memories of my former home in Charleston, SC and thoughts of our then-young country's efforts during the war of 1812 inspired me to paint this image of the only US Navy ship named for a British colony - the USS Carolina. The 230 ton schooner with 12 - 14 guns mounted behind high bulwarks on deck exposed to weather was built in Charleston and launched in November 1812. She departed Charleston for New Orleans, capturing a British schooner and destroying pirate strongholds along the way, she supported General Andrew Jackson's efforts to hold New Orleans. After substantial successful bombarding of British forces in New Orleans, the Carolina suffered heavy artillery on December 27, 1814, caught fire, forcing abandonment and subsequently exploded and sank. This image illustrates the Carolina passing the relatively new Customs House and Saint Michaels to the starboard sailing down the Cooper River towards the harbor and Atlantic beyond.
About Keith Wilkie
Sailor, beach lover & traveler from an early age, Keith's oil and acrylic paintings capture the quiet, peaceful nature of familiar coastal scenes, landscapes and cafe subjects. "My grandmother had a print of Winslow Homer's "Breezing Up" over her mantel and that scene pulled me in for as long as I can remember. Water is definitely part of my soul, and it is usually the salty variety. I grew up fishing and boating with my...
