Description
New York State, Southern Tier, Allegany County, Andover, Rt 417 - Situated on what was once the Iroquois Forbidden Trail, this was once the western boundary of civilization. Europeans were forbidden to venture west of this line on pain of death. This farm dates back to the first settlement of the region in the early 1820's. In my childhood and youth this was the Fred Sisson farm. Fred and Iva lived in a smaller humble home against the base of the hill behind the barn. The Taylor sisters lived in the house shown here, I have many fond memory's being watched by Aunt Iva (not my real aunt) as a child and riding her horse Sugar all over the hill. I also remember hot summers harvesting hay and loading the barn with my cousins and enjoying the cool waters while swimming in Dyke Creek behind the barn. Such memories are the treasures of living.
