Description
Tulip Garden Delight by Regina Geoghan - a close up cluster of garden tulips in an array of bright colors ncluding yellow, orange and red with a background of green leaves. Tulips are perennial, bulbous (grown from bulbs) plants, that are available in a variety of forms and colors. While they are widely planted and greatly loved in the US and North American and have been naturalized in many parks, they are not native to this part of the world. They are Eurasian and North African plants with approximately 75 wild species. Tulips were first cultivated from the native wild flowers in Persia and were thought to be brought to Europe sometime in the 1500s. It is believed the first tulips in the United States were imported to be grown in an estate in Massachusetts around the mid-1800s. Today, The Netherlands are the world's main producer of commercial tulip plants, producing as many as 3 billion bulbs annually that are primarily for export.
