Description
Connaught, Ireland. Satellite image of the prov- ince of Connaught in the west of the Republic of Ireland. The colours approximate to natural tones. North is at top. Connaught's Atlantic coastline is very rugged, and includes Galway Bay (at lower left) and the long sea inlet formed by mouth of the River Shannon (at bottom left). The Isles of Aran are at lower left. Connaught is sparsely populated, and much of its surface is covered in mountains and peat bogs. It has many lakes, including Lough Corrib (at centre left), Lough Derg (at lower right) and Lough Ree (at right). Image taken by the American Landsat-5 satellite.
