This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
The frightened herds of clouds across the sky
Trample the sunshine down, and chase the day
Into the dusky forest-lands of gray
And sombre twilight. Far and faint, and high,
The wild goose trails his harrow, with a cry
Sad as the wail of some poor castaway
Who sees a vessel drifting far astray
Of his last hope, and lays him down to die.
Excerpted from the poem Dusk by James Whitcomb Riley
The scene is a late January dusk as a deep chill settles into the Missouri countryside. The temperature dipped to 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The structure on the horizon is the Labadie power plant, referred to as the 'Labadie Stacks'.

I try to put everything I have learned from every great teacher and through every mistake I have made into each and every piece with as much passion as I have for art and for life itself. Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...

William, I like the motion in this shot. I get a feeling of drifting, almost as if the power plant is a large paddlewheel riverboat, which was my first thought on glancing at the photo. Beautiful combination of colors with gray/lavender foreground against that vermillion along the horizon. voted
William Fields replied:
Thanks very much Cheri
Andy Prendy
Intriguing image, slightly sinister in its industrial wintry-ness combined with the traditional sunset motif. Thought provoking as always. (v)
William Fields replied:
Thanks Andy. My intent was to show an industrial source of pollution in a way that would conflict the viewer. Is it a beautiful sunset or is it a sunset created by the acrid smoke from the power plant? Just what is trampling down the day? So glad you picked up on the inner theme. Thanks again.
