Description
"The Strange High House in the Mist" is Armand Cabrera's favorite short story by H. P. Lovecraft. Written on November 9, 1926, it was first published in the October 1931 issue of Weird Tales. Summary of plot....Thomas Olney, a philosopher visiting the town of Kingsport, Massachusetts, climbs up to a strange house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. He meets the mysterious man who lives there and has an encounter with the supernatural. He returns to Kingsport the next day, but he seems to have left his spirit behind in the strange house.
The inspiration to paint this scene came to Armand as he was hiking and painting the cliffs near the lighthouse at Point Reyes National Seashore in California. When the fog rolled in, he immediately thought of the Lovecraft story.
He used his sketch of the foggy scene as the basis for this painting..
