Based on photos of the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island from the waters of New York Harbor on my first visit to New York. I love the water views of the statue. They evoke feelings of the immigrants arriving at nearby Ellis Island and how Lady Liberty must have looked to them after their voyage to America. I wanted this piece to have the feel of an old mural on brick with the American flag as a backdrop to that beautiful old Neoclassical styled statue, which as any school child knows was a gift from the French in the 19th century. Her official name is Liberty Enlightening The World and she was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi.
Over a century old now, Lady Liberty is not only a US national monument that has become symbolic of American ideals, she's a UNESCO designated World Heritage site.
