Description
Preparations are going ahead at BRIXHAM, Devon for the departure soon of “Mayflower II” - from Plymouth, Devon to Plymouth Massachusetts - over the route taken by the original vessel with the Pilgrim Fathers aboard in 1620 to found the settlement of Plymouth. The Pilgrim Fathers are regarded as the pioneers of American Colonization. A member of the crew aboard the ship will be SUB LIEUT. JOHN WINSLOW who is a descendant of John Winslow who sailed to the United States in the original ship. Sub. Lieut. Winslow has been granged leave from the Royal Navy and will sail aboard the new ship as an A. B. “Mayflower II” caused some concern where she was launched at Brixham by her wild swaying from side to side - caused by shifting ballast. Now the ship has passed the ministry of Transport stability tests. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS:- SUB. LIEUT. JOHN WINSLOW takes a dive from the bows of “Mayflower II” - at Brixham, Devon where the ship is being prepared.
