The Mantra Tree art by Arathi Ma. As one engages in spiritual practice, illusion falls from the ego as do leaves from a tree before the coming of winter. The winter is known as the darkest time of the year, or the inward time. This is part of the letting go of the spiritual journey. Letting go of the ego is necessary for the coming of new light, hence the emerging ego is more "enlightened" than before.
