Description
"The Far Side Banks of Jordan" 18x24
I've been thinking about how I might paint this for some time. It is inspired by my favorite duo's version of one of my favorite songs, "The Far Side Banks of Jordan (June and Johnny Cash) https://youtu.be/YpM9nZwNJlo
At first, I was going to sketch just an orbitrary bank, but then decided to depict "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas-the baptismal site of Jesus Christ) I had to "Google Earth" it to get a feel for it. This is my attempt at an artistic interpretation of the sacred ruins.
🎼🎵🎶"And I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
I'll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand
And when I see you coming, I will rise up with a shout
And come running through the shallow water, reaching for your hand."🎶🎵🎼
Al-Maghtas (Arabic: المغطس‎, Hebrew: בית עברה‎), meaning "baptism" or "immersion" in Arabic, is an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan on the east bank of the Jordan River, officially known as Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan" (Al-Maghtas).
