Description
The central dome of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis rises 143 from the floor and is symbolic of the power of God's love. The construction of the Cathedral which began in 1907 is Romanesque and the distinctive dome is a prominent sight in the St. Louis skyline. Romanesque style on the outside, but Byzantine on the interior, the building was influenced by that of Westminster Roman Catholic cathedral in London. The exterior is clad in grey granite with a green tiled roof. The interior is well executed with mosaics by Tiffany, the Gorham comany, and Ravena mosaic company.
