Description
This painting was inspired by the waves of Lake Ontario at the breakwater at Port Dalhousie Pier. I have always lived in cities located on Lake Ontario. Born in Kingston, my Grandfather owned a 32' boat used for recreational fishing and from a very early age I would be out on the lake fishing with him and his friends. My first experience of how treacherous the lake could be came when I was about 10 yrs. old. We were fishing on the leeward side of Amherst Island when the storm hit, we headed back to wards port but the magneto (generator) failed and we were left powerless. There was nothing that could be done other than to ride out the storm until we crashed into the shore just west of the Portsmouth harbor. An attempt was made to secure the boat by lashing it to the rocks but by the next morning it was a total wreck. That event produced a very healthy respect for the power of the lake and scenes such as this are a constant reminder.

Thanks Trilby my oil paintings are created using pallet knives, scraping and blending the colours on the canvas. A technique that results in that soft watercolor feel.
