Description
Together with the greater one-horned rhino, the white rhino is the largest of all rhino species. Its name comes from the Dutch "weit" (wide), in reference to the animal's wide muzzle. It is also known as the square-lipped rhinoceros due to its squared (not pointed) upper lip.
Compared to black rhinos, white rhinos have a longer skull, a less sharply defined forehead and a more pronounced shoulder hump. They have almost no hair and two horns. The front horn averages 60 cm, but occasionally reaches 150 cm in length.
They are very social and caring animals, it is not uncommon to see 10 or 15 white rhinos moving together and sometime even more.
This White rhino mum from Dubbo Zoo is the southern white rhino. The Northern white rhino has almost disappeared, there is only 4 animals left in the wild. I see white rhino as super sweet and misunderstood creature who will do anything to protect their family !! No wonder they attack humans, they don't know which human just want to look and which want to kill !!
Also there were 4 white rhinos in Dubbo Zoo who died of mysterious disease in 2012. This mother, who was already pregnant at the time was the only survivor. The staff of Dubbo Zoo were heartbroken and when the mother gave birth to a healthy calf, it called for big celebration. Up to today they don't know why they died.

oh, I hope it is really not crying but just a natural discharge from the eye. I like this picture but I am sad. L
