Description
This original colour pencil rendering en noire showcases the intricate natural stippling of a broken butterfly wing, found by one of my friends in Tennessee, Kimberly Rose. She graciously allowed me to use a reference photo of her precious treasure find on a recent woodland walk. I was amazed at the variations of indigo and violet blues, whites and rusts in the stippling patterns which became painful early on in my rendering. My commitment to Beauty yielded this pale reflection of the original Natural creation I could not help but allow to BEcome... it is a prayer marker in memoriam to the Beautiful Butterfly these patterned once lifted on angels wings into the Light!
PHOTO CREDIT: Kimberly Rose- thank you for this opportunity.
Note: While my colour pencilwork is normally categorized as “ Painting” my “en noire” studies do not completely cover the paper as a painting surface and so, because they utilize the paper in background composition, they will be labeled as “drawings”.

What a beautiful and inspirational tribute to that lovely butterfly, Laurel! So sad that it is gone, but it does live on in your lovely work. Voted in Conceptual Abstracts Contest. l/f

Many thanks for your kindnesses Marsha. When my friend found this, she sent me a photo and I asked for her permission to paint it. I was thrilled when she said yes!

A beautiful tribute to the butterfly who lost that wing... and to butterflies everywhere. Lovely artwork! l/f

It is sad...It was an abstract of love for this lovely’s delicate pattern-print left to the elements...I couldn’t let him or her be forgotten....

Awwww, that's almost sad. We get to see butterflies from their conception to their old old age, which often is less than a year. What better way to honor this old flying flower.
