Description
First Congregational Church of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, was first gathered in 1734 by Rev. John Sergeant as a western mission point to the region's Mahican Native Americans. A graduate of Yale and Puritan preacher, Sergeant's mission point laid the foundation for the town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The congregation's history is rich with prominent pastors and members, including renowned First Great Awakening preacher and theologian Jonathan Edwards (pastor of First Congregational 1751-58) and theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (member from 1950-71). The current church structure, the third meeting house, dates to 1824 and houses the impressive Johnson Organ. In 1957 First Church became the first Congregational church in the national to join in forming the United Churches of Christ (UCC).
This striking fine art photographic print is the perfect conversation piece for a wall in your home, office or business.
