Stem to Sky A Hummingbird Flies. Hummingbirds are amazing creatures--there aren't many people who would argue. Perhaps we marvel at their speed, accuracy, and agility. Maybe it's the beauty in the brief moments that we are able to see them hover, their tiny wings vigorously moving 50 times per second, the delicate creatures deciding whether to take a closer look at a flower or spend a few seconds at the feeders we place out for them. Then, as soon as they appear, they are gone, excelling over 30 mph to zip back to the safety of a tree or to avoid the confrontation of another rival coming in for a drink.
