Description
Arguably New Orleans most iconic scene is the view from the Mississippi River levee looking toward Jackson Square and the historic St. Louis Cathedral. This image captures the essence of a trip to the Crescent City and time spent in the French Quarter sipping cafe au last and bingeing on beignets. The festive holiday bows evoke the celebratory mood of a trip to the Big Easy during the Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years seasons.
The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, also called St. Louis Cathedral, stands as the oldest cathedral church in North America, faithful have gathered to worship in churches on this site since the early 1700s. A parish was established in 1720, and a grand church built in 1727. The current structure was built in 1789, replacing the church lost in the great fire of 1788. The Church id St. Louis was elevated to cathedral status in 1973.
This evokes the history and spirituality of New Orleans, It is a perfect photography piece for those who love the Crescent City and its rich, complicated heritage.
