Description
This pinon pine log (id uncertain) is slowly decaying and has become a helical bundle of remarkably strong wood fibers. This is a photorealistic HDR and composite photo, to show both the sky, as it was, and the shadow detail of the decaying log in a single photo. The clouds seem to follow the hill contours in an odd manner, but thats how they really were. Also this photo also shows the organic soil crust, of bacteria, lichens, and moss. This delicate soil precursor is very slow growing. In fact, in some places in the desert, you can still see damage to the soil from early pioneer wagon trains.
