Description
One of the ancient oak trees in New Orleans City Park is called the Singing Oak, or Chime Tree. In the summer, artist Jim Hart, transforms the tree into a musical symphony of sound. He hangs wind chimes of different sizes all over the tree. One chime measures 14 feet long! The chimes are left to blow in the wind, creating harmonious and relaxing tones. They have five notes per octive, all tuned to the pentatonic scale. The hidden chimes are painted black to blend in with the tree branches.
