Description
Most people who cross the Canadian prairies do so on the Trans Canada Highway, which crosses through the flattest lands. This small exposure to a big land creates the stereotype of Saskatchewan as being flat. Little do they realize that only a short distance north the hills and valleys roll in big sweeping curves and wedges. When you top a hill, the view can be both humbling and breathtaking, as cloud shadows waltz slowly across this massive dance floor.
The bottom third of the province produces 45 percent of all grains grown in Canada, which, from an artistic point of view, also provides a superior study of patchwork in perspective. Rare is the prairie artist who is not primarily influenced by the land of sky.
