Painting - Gyotaku On Handmade Rice Paper
Description
Gyotaku is an ancient artistic method that uses real fish or other sea creatures. I practice the Direct Method by painting directly on the fish, then press handmade paper over them. When the paper is lifted, the impression of the creature on the paper. At this point, final touches are added, such as the eye and traditional signature. (Traditional Gyotaku does not paint the eye to make the original impression.) My traditional signature is my name in Japanese.

Odessa, stunning painting. Very much in the Asian style. Wonderful combination of blues and greens. Delicate yet full of challenge. Congratulations on sale, cheers. georgia

Thank you Georgia!! The technique is called Gyotaku (fish rubbing) and originated in Japan. I paint directly onto the sea creature, then press paper over it, creating the rubbing. I appreciate the kind compliments!
