Description

This original acrylic painting "Sax Solo" by David Ralph captures the momentous energy and intensity of a jazz solo by saxophonist Sal Giorgianni. In his 40-year career as a professional musician, Sal has played with many of the great artists in jazz such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, George Gruntz, and Maynard Ferguson. Sal has played his sax for audiences all over the world; including in many cities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Later on, he went on to perform and/or record with jazz greats Arturo Sandoval, Elvin Jones, and Miles Davis. Pop, rock, and r&b artists such as Peabo Bryson, Ashford & Simpson, Daryl Hall, The Rascals, and The Gypsy Kings also utilized the amazing sounds of Sal's saxophone. As a solo artist, Sal released three CDs for Windhouse Records where he showcased his unique saxophone style, as well as his composition and production talents.
I went to high school in upstate NY with Sal Giorgianni back in the early 80s. And Sal, along with several other jazz and ensemble musicians that played in the Ellenville High School Jazz Ensemble at the time, put our small town of Ellenville, NY on the map. They performed at the 1982 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
