This photograph was taken in my photo studio. I purchased this white rose rose from my local florist shop and a baby violin mantis on the internet from a website called mantisplace.com! After about five to six weeks I brought this baby violin mantis (only about 1 1/2" tall at the time) to my photo studio and let him walk freely on the white rose! I used a 140 macro lens with a #2 extension tube to get as close as I could to the rose and mantis filling up the entire frame with the image of both! After taking about 20 different photos of this little guy there were only about 3 which he was in the right position where you could see all of him very clearly extending his arms and this was one of them! A very unique interesting mantis in the the mantis species! This is a mantis you can have as a pet,and be raised under the the right climate conditions in your home! It feeds mainly on flies and other small insects and is extremely quick with it's forearms to grab it's prey and eat it live!
