Description
It's a bit surprising to find a lovely 41 acre park nestled between Rangers Ballpark on one side and Cowboy Stadium on the other in Arlington TX. (Yes, yes, it's Globe Life Park and ATT Stadium, at least in 2015.) This is Richard Greene Linear Park and it owes its essence as a greenway to the Johnson Creek Ecosystem Restoration project. The project, which included creek restoration, stream bank stabilization, development of a two mile hike and bike trail, and ecosystem enhancements, was such a success that it won a National Park Design Award by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Looking west you see what looks like a alien spacecraft rising above the trees. That is AT&T, home of the Dallas Cowboys since opening in 2009. The facility is a multipurpose one, having been used for other activities outside of its main purpose (professional football) such as concerts, basketball games, college football and high school football contests, soccer matches, as well as motocross. The first official stadium event was a Paul McCartney concert on August 19, 2009.
