Description
Revolutionary Defense Party Election Poster 1980. This is something of a curio. It's not clear if candidate Huey Newton - here going by his middle name "Percy" - was running for president, the Senate or Congress. "Revolutionary Defense" is clearly a pseudonym for the Black Panther Party (originally the Black Panther Party for Defense), as the small leaping panther logo confirms. The featured photograph appears to date from at least ten years earlier. All in all a bit of a mystery, not least because by 1980 Party membership had fallen to just a few dozen. Either way, Newton didn't get elected, but on the plus side he did gain a Doctorate in Philosophy that same year. Note: this is a facsimile edition, not the original.
