Description
I've not been all over the world, and certainly have not seen all the sights, but I saw quite a bit while in the Navy years (and years!) ago, and I truly believe that this lake is one of the most beautiful ever. This is Wallowa Lake, in Wallowa County, northeast Oregon, and as the crow flies, about a mile from our home in Joseph, but it was about 5 miles by car. Wallowa is a glacial lake, and what is seen on the right is one of the 'moraines', or what the glacier pushed up out of it's way eons ago. The road I took this from is at the other moraine, and we lived just on the other side of it. Wallowa County is in the extreme northeast corner of Oregon. The scenery is almost beyond imagination, and even though it was 75 miles from where we lived to the nearest freeway and WalMart, it is really popular with tourists. For all of that, there is not one signal light in the whole county. Joseph, our town, is home to several bronze foundrys, and artists from around the world send their work to Joseph to be cast. Main Street in Joseph is lined with life-sized bronzes made by local artists. They are truly amazing. It hurt to the depth of our souls to leave Wallowa County, but that's an entirely different story. The mountains seen here are part of the Blue Mountain range.
