Description
In every marsh and wet field from coast to coast in North America, one can usually find a Red-wing singing its song. They are remarkably bold, and several will often attack a larger bird, such as a hawk or crow, to defend their nests. The red shoulder patches of the male are often hidden under body feathers, but when they sing they display their brilliant markings. Red-wings breed in marshes, brushy swamps, and hayfields. They forage for insects and seeds in cultivated open land and along edges of water. Outside the breeding season, flocks of red-wings gather in farm fields and pastures. “Red-winged Blackbird and Cattails,” is a digital painting and composite created in Spadecaller's Florida Studio.
