Description
After a long search in the forest, the gopis found Radha lamenting alone. Krishna left her after abandoning the rasa dance. While leaving the dense forest, the gopis absorbed their minds in the thoughts of Krishna. The gopis came to the bank of the Yamuna. Walking along, they arrived at an auspicious strand of dazzling white sand, finer and softer than camphor dust. They sat down together and sang about Krishna for some time. The sweetness of their song, the essence of love in separation, could melt a heart of stone and attract the hearts of the mountains, trees, and creepers.
The pastimes of Radha Krishna are inspired by Vedic literature, such as Srimad Bhagavatam.
Radha is a goddess popular in the Vaishnava tradition. She is a milkmaid (gopi), the lover, and the most represented companion of the Hindu god Krishna in the Puranas, medieval era texts.
The Sanskrit term Rādhā means “prosperity, success”. It is a common word and name found in various contexts in the ancient scriptures of India. Of these, the most celebrated is the name of the Gopi who was the beloved of Krishna.
