Description
'Violet Shadows' - inspired by a horse grazing near Starcross in Devon, I started by doing a plein air sharpie pen gestural sketch of the horse, working from life. Then, back in the studio, I painted stripes of watercolour across the background to represent a very loose interpretation of the landscape but turned through 90 degrees. Next, I used violet watercolor to add shadow and a long cast shadow to create a strong sense of light.
