Description
The purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is particularly popular in dry climates as it is drought tolerant and sun loving. It is grown as an ornamental plant but also grows wild in open, prairie type areas. Pollination is by bees and butterflies. It is a medicinal plant that is thought to stimulate the immune system. It has also been used externally for insect bites, wounds, and burns as well as internally for stomach aches, pain, and coughs. The spiny center of this pretty flower stands out in this tone on tone presentation.
