Thank you, Xueling! I've tried to capture the "benign agony" of many street entertainers I've seen...especially in Mexico (but these specific musicians could be anywhere in the world). One can often witness a curious paradox, or oxymoronic contrast, of very sad musicians playing "very happy" music." I've often observed this interesting trait in evidence in many a bar in Mexican sections of various California towns and cities (in my younger years). In this case, I visualized the idea of using wooden puppets or marionettes (without strings) to personify the stoic nature of these hapless souls who have obviously had a very hard life. Their only path to survival is to utilize their native talents on the mean streets of the world.
