There is definitely a hidden meaning in this whimsical double portrait, with both of its subjects deeply focused: the young jewish man on reading his prayer book and his white feline companion - on watching the reader intensely. We can feel the bond between the man and the animal, they are so present in the moment and invite us to share it with them.
The longer you look at this somewhat surreal figurative art piece, the more you want to know the characters and their story, which would probably suggest more questions than answers and may just end up being a hyperbole or a sort of exaggeration.
Charming and enigmatic, the painting is done in yellow, blue, green and gray color palette. The choice of pastel colors seems to soften the tension of the scene, where each of the depicted subjects strikes a dramatic pose.
