Sitting in a nature preserve, Point Cabrillo, a combination of light station and foghorn, on the rugged coast between Point Arena and Cape Mendocino in Northern California, is an octagonal, 47 foot wood-frame structure housing with a third order lens.
It's not hard to find inspiration in the remote, romantic scenery of the lighthouse and its surroundings. Rugged, picturesque, natural perfection - The coast line here is everything I have come to love about Northern California even on foggy summer days. When the skies become heavy and gloomy with damp coastal fog, the colors in the grassy areas are getting rich, and the bands of different areas of vegetation that aren't so readily distinguishable in bright sunlight come to life.
Point Cabrillo and Mendocino's weather has the wild and unpredictable nature of most great beauties. You may start out in a romantic foggy landscape and emerge into glorious, grape-ripening sunshine. Be prepared for both!
