Description
Many people who live in the Paonia and Hotchkiss area witnessed this sunset and the warm pink glow of the clouds and snow on a late winter evening not so long ago. The delicate pinks were set off by the extreme dark blues of Gunnison Mountain and the various values of blue in the clouds and the sky at dusk that day. This was an outstanding display of the beauty nature provides for us frequently in the North Fork Valley of the Gunnison River.
Mount Gunnison is located inside the northern boundary of the West Elk Wilderness south of Paonia, Colorado. Its elevation is around 12719 ft. so, snow can cling to the slopes into late June or sometimes early August. It is not uncommon for temperatures to vary 20 degrees between the shadows and sunlit areas on this mountain. And, during the spring or summer temperatures can be freezing in the morning and pretty warm in the afternoon. This climate is ideal for all kinds of wildlife; elk, mule deer, black bear, bobcat, mountain lion, and coyote.

Wonderful mountain peeks in pink!
Dale Jackson replied:
Thank you, Marcia! They are often different shades of pink in the evening when covered with snow; and, are perfectly framed by the picture windows on the east side of our living room!
