An old photo I found online of Piccadilly in the 60�s provided great reference for this painting. Not only is it rich in detail and colour, but has the charm of encapsulating a famous London landmark in a bygone era. I love all the retro signage, vintage cars and buses. I�ve painted on linen here because I like its hessian appearance which adds to the vintage look. The linen has been primed with a clear gesso so that the natural colour and texture show through. Canvas or linen has to be primed to protect the fabric fibres from chemicals in the paints that would cause it to degrade over time and also to provide a �tooth� or surface for the paint to adhere to.

My career has taken two parallel paths: one doing corporate commissions for interiors, in particular for the cruise industry (my work is in the permanent collections onboard at least a couple dozen ships), and the other selling my paintings online, through galleries or by private commission. The corporate work required me to be versatile so I have worked in a wide array of genres and mediums, but my other work tends to be figurative with portraits and animals featuring frequently in my paintings. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe and my fondest memories are of visiting my grandparents who lived on farming land (I adored their chickens and would even pick up and cuddle the hens).
