Description
These three bronze statues are a popular tourist attractions at Queen Elizabeth Park. They are part of the 'Photo Session' group of statues and are the work of John Seward Johnson II (born 1930) also known as J. Seward Johnson, Jr.. Johnson is an American artist known for his trompe l'oeil painted bronze statues. He is a grandson of Robert Wood Johnson I (co-founder of Johnson & Johnson). He is best known for his life-size bronze statues, which actually are castings of people depicting them engaged in day-to-day activities.
Queen Elizabeth Park perched on aptly named Little Mountain in the centre of Vancouver, British Columbia is one of the largest parks in the area, encompassing 130 acres of land. At 550 feet above sea level it is one of the highest points overlooking the downtown core to the north, the sea to the west and the city and valley to the east and south. The peak of Little Mountain serves as home to some interesting architectural wonders. The Bloedel Conservatory filled with exotic plants and animals has the distinction of being he first geodesic conservatory built in Canada. Outside the dome is a large 'dancing' fountain system with a large modern art installation, 'Knife Edge' by famous Canadian Henry Moore.
