Description
While patiently waiting early in the morning, a 'gang' of Peach Faced Lovebirds returned to our back yard. There's been as many as 25+ at a given time, and once they knew I was chumming the yard with sunflower seeds the magic quickly became a daily event! Although most of these unique parrots are lime green in body color, there are occasional 'pied' types as seen here in a brilliant yellow. I've shot well over 4,000 photos of these wonderful birds, and I've seen pale blues as well as yellows, and yellow/green mixes. These parrots are originally from West Africa, but over the decades these unique birds have been released and have escaped, and have now managed to thrive in the Phoenix Valley and number in the tens of thousands. They've adapted to the climate, and have been flourishing to the point where the Audubon Society will likely have to make proper entries in their Birding Field Reference Guides to accommodate the simple fact that the Peach-Faced Love Bird's are here to stay, and are now part of the Phoenix Valley of Arizona as well as West Africa from which they came. Amazing birds, and never a dull moment studying them. They mate for life, and have personalities unlike other birds. They're incredibly playful, and love to 'storm' our property while making the loudest racket they can! Never a dull moment when they arrive, and they'll make sure you keep your feeders full as they'll return as many times a day as long as you keep up the feeding.
