Description
PERCHED VILLAGE OF GORDES is a textured landscape photograph by Carla Parris.
Gordes is a lovely medieval village in France (a French ville perchee). It is built on foothills of mountains in the Vaucluse region of Provence, facing the Luberon mountain range.
An array of old white stone houses and buildings, impressively perched on sharp rocky cliffs, are arranged in concentric tiers around an imposing 12th century Renaissance castle and church. The rocky foundations of the city, dotted with cypress trees and other vegetation, are visible in the foreground of this photograph.
Gordes enjoys the distinction of being listed as "one of the most beautiful villages of France." It is not only an impressive sight when viewed from a distance, but is delightful to visit.
