The Payne's Prairie State Preserve park is located 10 miles South of Gainsville, Fla, in Mi canopy, on the East side of 441. There is contained more than 20 biological communities that provide excellent habitat for everything from alligators to birds. The Park also contains it's own herd of buffalo, and if you really want to see the direct descendants of the first horses brought to America by the Spanish, of which we Floridians call "The Cracker Cowboy horse", Payne's Prairie has that too. My favorite place to visit because of the sand hill cranes, is along the La Chua trail, which stretches out into the prairie. It's a beautiful place for the cranes to come and enjoy safety and a food supply. The painting was done on a large canvas {48x60} so I could capture as much of the actual vastness this wonderful place has on display every day. On the left, a regal snowy egret has come to rest to find out whats for dinner.
