Description
This piece originated from a photograph taken of a cotton field nearby, with the backdrop of mountains and blue skies.... with a bit of tweaking turned it into a red, white and blue abstract heart. Shown with Bible verse John 15:13.
On June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in the Palace of Versailles officially ending WWI. According to the US Veterans affairs fighting ceased 7 months earlier on November 11, 1918.
Woodrow Wilson in the following year would declare November 11th Armistice Day. Wilson said, "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."
In 1938 Congress made it a national holiday honoring those from WWI and WWII. This eventually led to the 83rd Congress changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day commemorating veterans from all wars; the first Veterans Day was recognized on November 11, 1954.
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." George Washington
"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." John F. Kennedy
"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem." Ronald Reagan
"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened." Billy Graham
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Anita Faye replied:
Thank you so much Karen! The way this picture came together seemed to express the gratitude that I've so often felt a loss for words to convey. We can hear the voices of so many who've gone before reminding us of what is precious.
