Description
Early morning walks in my neighborhood during the
springtime in Arizona,
reveal the Palo Verde trees bursting with
yellow flowers! The streets are lined with
these trees and form a beautiful canopy.
When the blossoms begin to drop,
the entire street and sidewalk are covered
with a layer of yellow. It is just like walking on
the "yellow brick road" from the Wizard of Oz.
This usually happens very early in spring
when friends and family members back in the
Midwest are still experiencing several snow storms.
So, this is our 'yellow snow'!
The Palo Verde tree is a most unusual as it has a bright yellow-green bark
that turns gray in some areas as it matures.
The branches grow rapidly and twist and turn,
sometimes winding around the neighboring branch.
This creates an interesting canopy that becomes a
brilliant yellow umbrella every spring!
What a wonderful sight.
