Description
This landscape of Owens Lake in California is memorable to me for a wide variety of reasons. First, on this windy and rainy day, alaki mineral dust, and perhaps talc, were blowing off of the semi-dry lake bed in beautiful white clouds, which caused intense stinging of the eyes later when we drove on the edge of the cloud as we approached the small town of Keeler on CA 190, the Nadeau Trail. The mountains on the right are called the Talc City Hills, which is why I say that the dust may contain talc, and undoubtedly many alaki minerals. From looking at a map, I think that you may be able to see several small towns in this photograph: Lone Pine, Swansea, Alico, Dolomite, Mock, and also the Natural Soda Products Company, Cerro Gordo Mines, if they are not obscured by the dust.

Ahh...that's gorgeous! =) Makes me want to fly through some clouds.
Gregory Scott replied:
If I had ever learned to fly, one thing I would have wanted to do is do acrobatic dogfight/shadow-boxing around complex clouds. Pilots tell me that is virtually impossible to do with any safety. But in a crop duster without a load, or a plane designed for stunts, I think it would be a real thrill, akin to whitewater kayaking.
