Description
There's something about seeing the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral rising above the skyline of London that is instantly recognizable. Perhaps it's the war time images of the blitz during WWII that we still see today, of that mighty dome standing amongst smoking ruins.
It might be interesting to know that when the last St Paul's burned in the great fire of 1666, the architect of the new St Paul's, Sir Christopher Wren, fought to have this dome as part of the new church, and it was an uphill battle. He's said to have done it at least partially in secret his vision was so strong that the new cathedral should appears as it does for us today.
When I was editing this photo, a particularly low depth of field with only the dome barely in focus and all the people on the Millennium Bridge thrown out of focus, I felt there was something of vintage feel to the soft colors in the sky. And as you can tell, I was inspired to take the over-all feeling of the image the rest of the way, giving it a vintage treatment. Of course, it's an anachronism as no photo old enough to appear this way would include the beautiful Millennium Bridge.
