Oriental pulse diagnosis. Artwork of a medical practitioner (centre) performing pulse diagnosis on a patient (left). This is one of several traditional oriental medicine techniques that has been practised for many thousands of years. By feeling the pulse at different levels within the wrist, the practitioner makes a diagnosis of the cause of the patient's illness. He might then prescribe a herbal remedy, such as that being prepared by the herbalist at lower right. Photographed in Daegu, South Korea.
