Thanks for the notes. It truly can be amazing how some of these old timers stand up. I really have to wonder if many of today's offering can stand the test of time like these. We are in a part of Kansas known as "Post Rock Country". There are a lot of old homes made from limestone that have been abandoned. The insides of them may or may not be much, but so much of the rock is in perfect condition. Also, there are thousands of limestone fence posts that were put in the ground 150 years ago, or more, and they are still as strong and made use of as much as the day they were put in. We have a neighbor who is a retired engineer, and he says that these post can weigh as much as 100# per cubic foot. Not to be taken lightly!

This is wonderful. So much the kind of thing that I really love. The shape and color of the roof is neat, and I love the window in the back. Really nice.

Monica Wheelus replied:

I have inquired about this property's history and have been told the rock portion was built at the same time the original rock house in 1880s. The wood addition, with window, was added in the 20's as a bed room for workers. Additions were made to the original house about this time and the kitchen was moved. This left an apartment of sorts in this building. I really love buildings like these that are made from the materials of the area. It amazes me how they can stand the test of time.
