Description
This painting creates an almost peculiar mood for its viewers. The bright orange in the hat and the radiant colors in the flowers make us think that spring is near. The chair, with its woven construction, and the way that the hat has been precariously placed, tell us that the rooms inhabitant is feeling very casual. The light that illuminates the painting is coming from above and to the left. This creates a dark shadow on the chair. The colors on the walls and on the floor make the viewer feel blissful and content. The use of brush strokes on the walls and floor also create softened lines, which push the chair to the forefront of the painting. It seems almost possible that the subjects of this painting were seen in the evening. The inhabitant of the room came in after a long day and discarded her belongings haplessly in this chair. The chair possibly symbolizes the need for more organization in life.
